How To Maximise Space In Your Wardrobe

If you’re struggling to fit everything into your wardrobe and want to make the most of your space, you’re in the right place! We’re here with plenty of inspiration to help you make the most of the space you have, so everything is easier to find and it feels nice and tidy.

Let’s get into it with our tips!

Start With A Big Declutter

how to organize a closet? The first place you should start when it comes to maximizing space in your wardrobe is to start with a big declutter. The best way to save space is to remove the things that you never use or wear! So, pull everything out of your wardrobe, put it all out onto your bed or the floor, and then make a pile of all the items that no longer fit well, don’t make you feel good, or simply don’t wear anymore. Put all of those bits to one side in bin bags and you can sort through them later to decide what you want to sell and what you’re going to donate, just make sure you’re not throwing anything away. From here, you’ve got fewer clothes and accessories to work with which will help you to utilize the space more efficiently!

Utilise Vertical Space

The next tip is to utilize the vertical space in your wardrobe. Often we have a hanging rod in the wardrobe and then space at the top or the bottom, as well as actually on top of your wardrobe, gets forgotten about. However, these are all great spaces that can make a real difference to your wardrobe storage. You can get storage to go at the bottom of your wardrobe which is great for things like jeans, knitwear, gym wear, or loungewear that don’t need to be hung up, then you’ll have more hanging space for things like your wedding guest dresses or work clothes. If you have a shelf at the top of your wardrobe, the same goes here as well.

For the very top of your wardrobe, if there is some space between the ceiling and wardrobe, you could get storage boxes with lids to prevent any dust and use that for extra space, perhaps things that you don’t use as often. Another good idea if you’re short for space is to get some built-in cupboards along one wall of the room high up on the wall, so you’re not using up floor space but you’re getting some great extra space.

Get Dividers

Another great way to maximize space in your wardrobe is to get dividers. This works best for things like all of your drawers, where it’s easy for everything to just get thrown in and nothing is easy to see or organize. You can get great dividers with lots of compartments, in varying sizes from very thin ones for things like small t-shirts or pajamas and then also much larger ones for your knitwear or denim items. You’d be surprised at how much better you can use the space and how much you can fit in!

Get Creative With Extra Hanging Space

Something else you can do to help you maximize space in your wardrobe is to get creative with extra hanging space! So, firstly starting in your actual wardrobe, you can get space-saving hangers where you can hang everything in a row and then collapse the hanger so that the items are all hanging next to each other vertically rather than horizontally. This can save so much space! Another good option is to get hanging for the back of your closet door, whether it’s singular hooks for things like a dressing gown or coat, or you can also get multi hangers to fit more things on, like for your accessories.

If you struggle for storage for shoes, then a back-of-door hanging shoe storage solution can transform the space. Some of these can fit up to 36 pairs of shoes! Shoes take up so much space so this is a great way to find an alternative.

Final Thoughts

There are plenty of ways that you can maximize the space in your wardrobe, from having a good clear-out to looking at your storage solutions and some creative hanging techniques! Before you look to build extra storage, follow these tips and you might just surprise yourself and end up with much more space.
