Popular Color Trends For Each Room In The House

If you’ve been looking to redecorate your home but aren’t sure which color or style to go with, this is the article for you! We Buy Any House look into some of the most popular color trends of 2021 in each room of the house, hoping to inspire you on your decorating journey!

1. Living rooms

The living area is where a lot of us spend most of our time, winding down with friends and family after work or for a quiet night watching television. There are several different trends that we’re seeing in living rooms across the country, with these being some of our favorites –

  • Muted, softer colors:
After the last year, most of us are looking for a space in our home to relax and enjoy some peace. Choosing softer-toned colors makes the room feel more welcoming and appealing, a perfect place to settle down. The great thing about this trend is that you can pick almost any color in a muted shade, offering flexibility and meaning that there’s something that everyone can enjoy. From warm, terracotta tones to cooler colors like blue, it’s a very inclusive style.
  • A feature color:
A stunning style is to have a neutral base color with a complementary bright shade to pair with it, creating a lovely contrast that will really make your living room pop. From grey shades put with bright pink or navy tones accentuated with a mustard yellow, this draws attention to your living room while keeping it feeling coordinated. You can pick any neutral color as your base color, and then add accessories like cushions, throws, rugs, and ornaments to the room in your accent color. This trend gives the room a wow factor and is a lot of fun finding the perfect matches!

2. Kitchens

Kitchens have seen all sorts of revamps in the last few years or so, with design ideas and shades that we never expected to see popping up. With new gadgets to make everyday life easier too, a luxurious kitchen is top of the list for a lot of people and is where we’re seeing some amazing updates, such as –

  • Bold and bright shades:
Previously, most kitchens were focused on a neutral tone with white and grey or stone shades being the go-to. Now, however, more and more homeowners are branching out and bringing in bold, beautiful colors like royal blue and deep black. It’s a big change to make but one that’s incredibly effective, standing out from the crowd and offering a warmer, more rustic style that’s such a contrast from the classic sleek white designs.
  • Clashing colors:
This trend offers a throwback to the ’70s and 80’s styles, bringing in colors that should clash but balancing them in such a way that they manage to work. The perfect example of this trend is the green and pink combinations that are popping up in homes – but not the lime green and hot pinks that you may have first imagined. Think less intense, with darker toned greens balanced against a pastel pink that might not be for everybody but has some stunning results!

3. Bedrooms

Before now, bedrooms were the home to all sorts of bright and beautiful colors, but now we’re seeing a more subtle approach to the color trends in these rooms. Bright colors can be overly stimulating and result in a negative effect on our sleep patterns especially in those who already struggle with their sleep, but there are still plenty of fantastic options –

  • Monochrome:
You may think that black is too intense for a bedroom, but when it’s paired with white and grey and used as more of an accent tone, it has beautiful effects that will give you the bedroom of your dreams. Monochromatic color trends are classic and will always prove a popular choice, striking a perfect balance between the shades.
  • Pastels:
Pastel shades are a perfect solution for those who don’t want to have a monochromatic bedroom but are trying to steer away from intense colors. Any shade of pastel looks lovely in a bedroom and will allow you to find other accessories that complement it in different shades to add some variety while staying coordinated. Pinks and purples are the most popular colors, but there’s still plenty of blue and green hues popping up too.

4. Bathrooms

Before now, most bathrooms were white and grey, with occasional shades of stone or blue. These colors are the classic choice and are still very effective, but we’re seeing a huge range of other tones entering bathrooms and looking absolutely incredible –

  • Jewel tones:
These colors are eye-catching and will have anyone impressed, completely transforming your bathroom and giving it a luxury feel. Whether you prefer reds, greens, or blues, they all look amazing in a bathroom and can be complemented with chrome or silver features to really pull it all together.
  • Black:
Before now you’d never expect to see black in bathrooms, but it’s a gorgeous addition and is getting more and more popular. The key is to add touches without overwhelming yourself, so refresh your bathroom accessories to all black, look at dark grouting, and black towel rails and shower frames. The contrast in a white bathroom pulls together perfectly, and adding elements of black is a great option for those who aren’t ready to go all-in and decorate the entire room in such a dark shade – although this looks amazing as well when done right.

No matter your personal preferences and style, there are plenty of options for you when it comes to redecorating your home. Do your research, look at which shades work best for you, and grab the paintbrushes!
