A Guide to Planning a Luxury Camping Trip for Your Family

A family camping trip is an incredibly good way to see the great outdoors, take a break from work, and get your kids away from a screen for a significant amount of time; however, getting a camping trip right is another story, which is why paying attention to the right details is important. Here are some top considerations when planning a luxury camping trip.

Finding The Right Location

When it comes to camping, the most important detail to consider is probably location. For people who spend most of their time in the luxury of air conditioned buildings, spending time outside for an extended period can be a bit daunting, which is why finding the right place or places to set up shop will make the camping experience more comfortable.

It’s always possible to have your family trip in an open space at a national park, but this is an option that isn’t going to be very comfortable and amenities will be scarce. Instead, it would probably be best to find a dedicated campground spot where multiple other travelers or families are having their own camping trips. These campground spots can be found pretty much everywhere, although they’re most frequently found at Kampgrounds of America (KOA) locations.

If you are looking to really treat yourselves and go all out for this trip, you could look into smaller aircraft such as those at Jettly to take you to this location. In addition to being easily accessible, KOA locations have useful facilities like bathrooms and allow you to interact with other campers, so you don’t have to go on your trip alone.

It’s also important to consider the locale. Is your family a fan of forests? deserts? wide-open plains? The choices are practically endless, but keep in mind that areas that are next to large bodies of water tend to have lots of mosquitos during the warmer months.

Tent? RV? Cabin?

There are a ton of different sleeping arrangements you can come up with for a family camping trip, with tents and sleeping bags being the classical choice, but it’s also common for people to take an RV out for a weekend or week-long trip, since it has an “all-in-one” quality of being both a form of transportation and also containing a considerable amount of amenities, like bathrooms and kitchens. In fact, RVing is becoming so popular now that over 11% of US households now own them.

With companies like Country Roads RV Center having such a wide selection of RVs available for sale, this figure will surely rise. There is nothing like having the freedom to travel wherever and whenever you like! However, the downside to both these options though is space. If you have a large number of people with you, tents and RVs might be tough to accommodate.

Alternatively, you can settle on renting out a cabin or a yurt for a specific period. This will give you and your family a rugged feel while maximizing comfort; although they tend to rent out fast, so you’ll need to plan heavily in advance.

Getting The Right Equipment

Camping requires having the necessary equipment on hand; without it, you’re going to have a pretty miserable time.

Things like sleeping bags or tents are kind of obvious, but don’t forget to bring along items, such as flashlights, lanterns, batteries, and water carriers. Other items worth considering include portable stoves, sunscreen, insect repellant, coolers, and a first aid kit.

In terms of quality, going for the cheapest option is a pretty bad idea, especially if you plan on camping more than once. Try and look for high-quality items, such as those provided with Coleman camping equipment.

Pick A Timeline

How long do you want your trip to be? Depending on your kid’s school schedules and when you’re able to get time off work, your camping schedule is going to be difficult to approximate. Going for a weekend will probably be easy to full off and you’ll get a lot of flexibility when it comes to where you go and what services will be available, but a longer trip will probably be much more fulfilling.

Decide When You’re Going to Go

Time of year is a crucial thing to contemplate when going on a camping trip because it ultimately determines what kind of equipment and transportation is most appropriate. Understandably, most people go on camping trips during the summer due to the fact that it’s usually not rainy, not cold, and the roads are clear of ice and snow.

For most people in most situations, summer is the best time to go camping and you should probably plan your trip around that time. The exception to this is if you’re located near an area that’s exceptionally picturesque during a particular season, such as Vermont during the fall.

Setting Everything Up

Camping can be a fun, rewarding experience that can bring you and your family together, but only if it’s done right. Don’t make the mistake of winging it and ultimately making your dream trip the nightmare story your family talks about for years down the line.
