How to Choose the Perfect Glass for Residential Windows

Choosing windows for your house… how hard can it be? Aren’t all residential windows the same? Don’t you just need to be able to see through them and not kill yourself while cleaning?

Not hardly. There’s a lot more to choosing residential windows than you might think.

For one, there have been quite a few innovations and new developments in residential windows in recent years.

Secondly, you never want to be too hasty when making choices for your home. You do have to live there, after all!

Here are some tips for helping you pick the perfect Northampton residential windows!

How To Pick The Perfect Residential Windows For Your Northampton Home

When you’re picking out residential windows, of course you want to get the best of the best.

Home windows have evolved from being paper-thin sheets of glass to miracles of modern engineering.

Seeing as how we want the best for our homes, we have a tendency to go with the latest, most cutting-edge product or technology.

The first thing you must remember when picking out residential windows is they do a lot more than simply letting you look out of them.

Windows also serve as insulation for your home, along with allowing in fresh air and sunlight.

Windows are some of the first lines of defense in saving money on energy bills. Double glazed windows were all the rage when they first hit the market, and for good reason.

Not only were double glazed windows good for your pocketbook, they also were beneficial to the environment at the same time.

This caused the government to even give tax credits for homes featuring double glazed windows, which would often boast the notorious Energy Star logo.

You can read more about the benefits of double glazing over here.

Things didn’t stop with double glazed windows, however. There are triple glazed windows now, as well.

Triple glazed windows don’t just save on energy bills. They also help block out sound. So there are all sorts of quality of life improvements, as well.

Going with the “more is better” theory, that means that triple glazed windows would be the best then, naturally?

Yes and no.

Triple glazed windows will save you money, no doubt about that. But they also cost you money. A triple glazed window costs an average of 15% to 20% more than a double glazed window.

Obviously, if you’re going to be re-doing all of your windows, as you likely will if you’re updating residential windows, this can add up pretty fast.

So, the long story short of whether or not triple glazed windows are superior to double will depend on a few factors.

If you live in a very extreme climate, they’ll likely pay for themselves in less than no time. The other consideration is if you’ve recently redone your windows.

If you’ve got newer double glazed windows already in place, it’s probably not worth your while to replace them.
