Best Ways to Keep Bugs Out of Your House

Most people open their doors and windows to bring in fresh air into their house.

But especially when you are trying to cool down your house during a hot summer day you are at risk of letting bugs into your home.

No matter what season it is there will always be bugs that will want to invade your home. That is why we are sharing some of the best ways to keep bugs out of your home.

Look for Any Holes in Screens

One of the easiest ways to make sure no bugs come into your home is to make sure that your screens have no holes in them.

If you find even the smallest hole you will need to repair it immediately. If you don’t have any material in order to fix it, you can plug the holes with a cotton ball to hold you over.

Cotton will trick bugs into thinking that it’s a spider’s web and they won’t come near it.

But if you also see some holes in your windows make sure you patch them up or simply find new energy-efficient windows because bugs won’t be able to come in.

Give Your Doors A Closer Look

Close your doors and give them a closer look, really focus on them. The best time to do this is when it is daylight outside.

That is because when you close your door if you see even the slightest ray of sun, bugs will come into your home through there. But that won’t be your only problem, you are also losing energy.

By fixing those gaps you are not only keeping bugs out but you are saving energy. Believe it or not, most bugs will come through your open door.

Examine Your Home’s Exterior

Cracks in foundations aren’t just a hazard, it is also welcoming bugs into your home. Go around your home and steal any holes and openings with appropriate materials.

You really need to get in there because bugs are pretty small and sneaky and they can fit just about anywhere.

If you start looking and you find multiple holes in your exterior you will want to call termite inspection and have them continue with the inspections.

Trim Your Plants

When your plants are out of control, it is a perfect place for bugs to live. That is why you should always keep your plants trimmed.

You are also providing bugs, mice, squirrels an easy way in. Trim any shrubs or branches that touch your house or porch, because they will use it as a bridge.

Seal Your Utility Lines

It doesn’t matter if you don’t see any bugs in your home, you should check every single utility line that enters your home.

Make sure that you fill any openings around the entry points for your utilities. Inspect those areas on a regular basis so you make sure there aren’t any new cracks.

Check Your Attic Vents

One of the most important things you should check is your attic vents. These are really easy to be overlooked because they aren’t always easily accessible.

Thoroughly check the seals and caulking around the vents as well as out. Make sure that all screens are secure and tight.

It is also good to check and clear your roof valleys as well as your gutters. That should be done often because organic debris is a great shelter for bugs as well as mice.

Cover Large Any Openings

If you have some larger holes in your exterior, they can be quite difficult to cover. That is because you simply can’t cover up your chimney or roof vents.

But something you can do to make sure your larger openings are covered use very fine wire mesh.

It is super ready to install, you just roll it out and staple it over the holes and you won’t have any bugs or pests coming into your home.

Don’t Make an Inviting Place for Them

No matter how hard you try to fill all the little holes, they will always find a way to go into your home.

To make sure that there are no bugs in your home, you have to make a place where they don’t like to live. That means you should eliminate all of your clutter as well as get rid of their favourite things.

When they don’t have the resources to survive, they won’t stop there. Having a cluttered yard and home will create a breeding spot for bugs.

They will always discover a place where they can breed and thrive. End your infractions before it begins.

Don’t Chase Away Natural Predators

One of the best and most natural ways of bug-proofing is to have natural predators help you. Instead of not letting bats and birds hang around your house, let them be and they will kill all of the small insects.

For instance, swallows are some of the best mosquito killers while bats are going to protect you from spiders, scorpions, wasps and many more pests and bugs.

The most important thing is not to wait to take defensive action once you have bugs all over your home. You should go on offence and prevent having bug problems before they occur.
