The footsteps were followed by electric iron, and then by a washing machine named “Thor” in 1901. A bulky 45 Kilogram vacuum cleaner was invented in the year 1905.

Refrigerator and dishwasher were introduced in 1913, and in 1919 automatic pop-up toaster was available in the market. In 1928 the residential refrigerator was invented.

Recent developments have made household appliances an integral part of our daily life.

Contemporary smart devices are connected to the internet so that they can communicate with other devices.

Washing machine- Driving force for the empowerment of women

More people are using the washing machine; it is estimated by 2025, 30% of the world population will own a washing machine.

Modern washing machines have inbuilt heaters to warm water temperature for effective, thorough washing. Earlier washing was considered as woman’s daily chores.

The washing machine is the propelling force behind the empowerment and elevating position of women in society.

The device is one of the major driving forces to the cause of woman liberation, which is more assertive than contraceptive pills and abortion rights.

Some school of thoughts says washing machine is one of the best labor-saving technologies without impacting employment.

Modern washing machines can be segmented into; front loader and top loader. The top loaders have a vertical cylindrical body, and clothes are dumped from the top.

An agitator is placed on at the top to provide the requisite motion. The front loader has h horizontal cylindrical body, appearing like a drum. Clothes are loaded through the facade opening.

The paddles and drums situated inside the machine propel the clothes, and water movement combined with gravity wash the clothes in the process.

The front loader washing machines are more energy-efficient and use less water compared to top loaders.

Like other machines, these also require proper upkeep and maintenance for durability and optimized efficiency.

The latest models of washing machines come with a lot of innovative features, which makes the laundry job easy and pleasing.

In the last few years, technological advancement has changed the operations of washing machines enormously.

Even if you are not at home, you can do your laundry job through your smartphones. Air dry feature sucks up excess moisture from the washed clothes, resulting in the lesser drying time of the attires.

You can switch the vents on or off during the spin cycle. When the ducts are open, it sucks air from the atmosphere, warming your clothes and helping the process of evaporation.

This feature is useful for heavy clothes like bed sheets, which takes more time to dry.

Summing up

Reload functions are one of the contemporary features incorporated in washing machines. Previously you have to wait for the preset spin to complete before you can rectify or alter the setting.

When the water level drops to the necessary level enabling you to open the door without flooding the kitchen floor, you can reopen the door to load the forgotten clothes.
